The Ladder of Care 2: Asynchronous Telehealth Should be the First Step

You want your patients to get the most appropriate, affordable, and convenient care for what ails them. When it comes to low-acuity conditions, would that care be better sought in the emergency department or via a virtual care platform?

One of the benefits of incorporating an asynchronous telehealth platform to your ladder of care is that if patients are unsure what venue to choose, starting here means they will either receive care or receive guidance on how best to proceed to access the appropriate care needed.

Patients won’t use your ladder of care, however, if they can’t find it! Your organization’s venue of care navigation should be incorporated into all of the various patient touch points for marketing, with a particular focus on social, search, and the patient portal. Here are some ideas to consider:

Homepage placement: Access to same-day care options should be available with a single click on your website homepage.

Comparison of services: Care options should be presented in a format that allows patients to easily compare features

Make it mobile-friendly. Use pictures, not words: visual indicators help patients quickly and easily compare service options. Avoid large blocks of text

With a ladder of care approach, patients receive care in the appropriate venue for their conditions, and patients and providers save time and money.
